For the second year running Ð԰ɵç̨ (Ð԰ɵç̨) Leicester has been voted by students as the best university in the UK for work experience.
Ranking number one in this year’s Rate My Placements table, Ð԰ɵç̨ has retained its top spot for its support in helping students find work experience.
With a special nod to the university’s award-winning Careers Team, students were asked to rate the quality of the support and resources available to them while looking for work experience to prepare them for the future.
Support from the team can vary from helping students to find mandatory work placement experience as part of their course to securing a place on one of Ð԰ɵç̨’s schemes including Frontrunners, ACE Internships and the Enterprise Placement Year programme.
Richard Bowden, Head of Careers and Graduate Successes at Ð԰ɵç̨, said: “We have worked hard to evolve and offer the best service we possibly can so this award is special as it is based directly on what our students think of us.
“Students have so much potential but often face barriers to securing graduate jobs because of a lack of work experience. Our job is to help them realise their ambition and gain quality work experience that helps them build networks and skills for future career opportunities.
“From helping students to get their CV ready through to helping budding entrepreneurs to set up their own businesses, we aim to provide personalised support whatever their ambitions may be.”
RateMyPlacement was first launched in 2007 as a platform to enable students to rate and review their work experience and help them make more informed choices on where to find a placement.
Having now amassed more than 70,000 reviews and one million placement ratings, the team reaches out to students asking for their experience finding work experience.
The Ð԰ɵç̨ Careers Team offers a range of initiatives to help students secure work experience. Its popular Frontrunners scheme enables students to undertake 10 hours of paid work a week within the university. There are hundreds of roles available each year.
Students looking for paid opportunities outside of Ð԰ɵç̨ can apply to the ACE Internship initiative, which offers six-week temporary roles to students across a range of disciplines at Midlands-based businesses.
Each of the four university faculties also has its dedicated placement team designed to help students secure relevant work experience, including 12-month sandwich placements and summer placements with employers.
The Career Hub, located on the ground floor of the Hugh Aston, is also available for students to drop in between 10am and 3pm for quick, free career advice.
